Getting to Utrecht from Amsterdam Airport (Schiphol)

You will travel from the airport to Utrecht by train. Intercity trains take just over 30 minutes to reach Utrecht Central Station and run every 15 minutes or so. All intercity trains in the directions Venlo and Nijmegen stop at Utrecht Central Station (Utrecht CS). Do not take any of the slower ‘sprinter’ trains with Utrecht CS as their final destination. These trains take a detour and visit every station along the way, taking over an hour to reach Utrecht.

Train tickets are loaded onto a smart card, the ‘OV-chipkaart’. If you do not have an OV-chipkaart, you can buy a single-use version for €1 from the yellow machines in the luggage drop area or in the main hall of the airport, Schiphol Plaza. You will need a debit/credit card or coins for the machines. A ticket Schiphol-Utrecht will cost you 9,70 euros, including the OV card.

Getting to the NH hotel Centre Utrecht from Utrecht Central Station by bus

If you are staying at NH Hotel Centre Utrecht in the historic city centre (Janskerkhof 10), these are the instructions to get there. There is another NH Hotel right next to Utrecht Central Station. This is not the hotel recommended on our website.

Upon arrival at Utrecht Central Station, take the escalator from the platform up to the station hall and follow the signs in the direction Jaarbeursplein. As you walk through the station, the platform numbers should be ascending. Exit the station hall through glass doors and you will approach wide stairs and an escalator that lead towards a bus station next to a streetcar stop.

At the bus station you can buy a bus ticket (U-OV Reiskaart, €2,70) from the ticket vending machine next to the streetcar stop. If you have cash euros on you, you can opt to buy a ticket directly from the busdriver.

Find bus line 28 in the direction Uithof P+R (not in the direction Vleuterweide). This bus runs every 10 to 15 minutes. It takes about 5-10 minutes to reach the stop Janskerkhof, where you should disembark. The hotel is right behind the bus stop.

Getting to the symposium venue from the hotel

When you exit the hotel, cross the street and walk past the church, keeping it to your left. Traverse the small parking lot and head into the Boothstraat. After about 100 meters, the venue is on your right, at number 7.

Getting to Hostel Strowis from Utrecht Central Station by bus

Follow the directions above to get to the NH hotel Centre Utrecht. Then follow the directions to get from the Hotel to the symposium venue. Hostel Strowis is located directly across the street from the venue, as you can see on the map.

The symposium dinner

The walk from the symposium location to the restaurant is less than 10 minutes. We will walk collectively after the last session on Tuesday. If you want to find your own way, follow these instructions.

From the venue, walk towards the church. Now walk around the church, keeping it on your left. Take a right into the busy street (past cigar shop De Oude Tijd). Walk about 250 meters on this street. You will pass a square on your left, and a statue of a hare on your right. When you come to a bridge, cross the water and take a left onto Oudegracht immediately after, so that you are walking along to the water, with the canal on your left. The restaurant is on your right.

The symposium dinner will be at Stadskasteel Oudaen, located on Oudegracht 99.
